Alan’s sporting background is in martial arts which he has practised for more than 20 years. During this time he has trained with the GB Kickboxing Squad and competed at national level.
Following a succession of injuries, Alan developed an interest in fitness and in particular injury prevention and movement biomechanics.
In 2005, Alan became involved with Reading Football Club and developed a screening process to identify at risk professional footballers. This consultancy involved working closely with the medical staff at the club to develop a process of screening the professional squad and then devising and implementing individualised strength conditioning and corrective work to prevent injury.
Alan continues to provide consultancy to Reading FC and his work alongside the highly regarded medical set up at the club has helped dramatically reduce the injury rate of the professional squad.
In 2008, Alan presented a workshop on movement screening/injury prevention at the 1st ever World Science & Soccer conference in Liverpool. He had previously presented at the Think Fitness Performance Conference held at Blackburn Rovers FC in 2007.
Alan also consults with other elite sports professionals from various sports such as golf, tennis and rugby as well as Jimmy Marku, the UK strongman and has recently qualified as a UKSCA accredited practitioner.
